Turtle Ridge Trail! Fantastic Coastal Views!
Turtle Ridge trail rises on switchbacks out of Bommer Canyon and has scenic views of the ocean, Newport Coast and Irvine. This hike is different then the regular Bommer Canyon hike because we’re climbing higher, not going under the toll road and its a loop – no back tracking. We will wait for everyone at the top of the hills and at trail junctions.
Meet At: For easy parking we meet at Turtle Rock Community Park – Sunnyhill entrance (parking lot where tennis courts are). There are bathrooms and water here. Park in the lot and meet near the corner of Shady Canyon and Sunnyhill where you will see signs for Shady Canyon trail. Come early if its your first time driving to this location or want to use the bathrooms.
Route: From Turtle Rock Community Park we will take Shady Canyon Trail to Bommer Canyon trailhead. From the trailhead we will take Bommer Meadow, Nature Loop and Bommer Pass trails. Now the hard stuff: we climb the steep Turtle Ridge trail to the summit where we will stop for photos, water and to take in the views. We will follow the trail as it descends through the Summit of Turtle Ridge housing development and crosses Summit Park Drive twice. At the bottom we will pickup Shady Canyon Trail and take it back to Turtle Rock.
Pace: Medium, we will stop occasionally for water and to collect everyone.
