This is a challenging hike to Sierra Peak. I have hiked this way half way up before but not all the way to the peak. The last 1.5 mile is very steep. The difference between this hike and the normal hike to Sierra Peak where we return by the fire road is that is that we are hiking back the same way. It may be more challenging going down than going up due to the steep slope.
You are welcome to hike part of the way. The views is very good once you go past the housing tract.
Be sure you bring a trekking pole to maneuver the deep slope. There is no shade on the trail.
If it rains on Wednesday it will be better for this hike because there will be more traction on the trail.
