Re-Dedication of the Old Stagecoach Trail & Hike

This Sunday’s event in Chatsworth marks the 80th anniversary of the Stagecoach Road plaque dedication.  Many of you have already hiked with me on the trail that was a stagecoach road between 1860 and 1890; we’ll hike on it this day too. Event opens at 10:00 am with historical exhibits. See flier below.

There will be a re-dedication at 11:00 am commemorating the event. Glenn Bailey from the Neighborhood Council is the emcee, and will introduce Councilman Greig Smith who will present a scroll to the Native Daughters, as will other politicians. The presentation will be between 15 minutes and 1/2 hour, depending upon how many politicians with scrolls show up. And there will be a ceremonial cake with a plaque on it to cut and distribute to the crowd.

Hike to the plaque begins at noon. I plan on hiking beyond the plaque for about 5 miles total. Let’s meet at the signup table (by Rec Center) at 11:45. If you miss me go ahead and hike to plaque with the others at event and meet me at the plaque itself for the longer hike.  See flier below.

With the help of the Chatsworth Historical Society, I posted a short article on the history of the Stagecoach Road including the 1939 filming of the original dedication. See it here:

If the park parking lot is full, park on neighboring streets. The event is sponsored by the Santa Susana Mountain Park Association, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Santa Susana Mountains, the Chatsworth Historical Society, and the California Native Daughters of the Golden West.
