Old Ridge Route – The Grapevine

This is an 8 mile hike, elevation gain of 500’, out and back. We will explore ruins and other areas along the road. Comfy shoes are strongly recommended, no hiking boots unless you prefer them. We’ll be walking on concrete and asphalt the entire way. No dogs on this hike, it will be too hard on their feet.

FIRST THINGS FIRST:
This group hikes as fast as the slowest hiker.

Please follow the Meetup and CDC guidelines to keep our hikers safe:
• Carry a mask and wear it when near each other or other hikers.
• Practice social distancing at 6 ft. apart.

ABOUT THE HIKE
The Old Ridge Route opened in 1915 and was the only highway that connected Northern and Southern California. It was once dotted with hotels, gas stations, diners, and nightclubs. Hollywood stars and L.A. gangsters often visited the area. In 1970, the route was replaced by the Interstate 5.

The climate is dry and we’ll be at a higher elevation (about 4,000’), it can get chilly and it can get hot. I will keep you posted on the weather.
