Stats: Total distance is 13+ miles, completed in about 6+ hours. Elevation gain is about 2750 ft.

Necessities: Adequate water (2 to 3 liters), hat, sunscreen, snack or light lunch, layered clothing to adjust to climate change.

Description: Sierra Peak is a 3050 ft. mountain located between Yorba Linda and Corona just south of the 91 Frwy. We will be hiking to the towers at the Peak. On a clear day, from the summit, all four counties are visible from the Pacific ocean to the inland deserts.

The hike begins from the parking area to the trailhead, along the Santa Ana river trial to the Coal Canyon under crossing. The hike then continues from the trailhead to the summit via Pipeline Trail to Main Divide (approx. 5-1/2 miles) and back down via Main Divide and Coal Canyon Trail (approx. 7-1/2 miles) forming a 13+ mile loop. The trail to the summit begins with fire road in fairly good condition up to about 1500 ft., after that point it’s a combination of steep and very steep slopes (e.g. Dreaded hill and Elevator). This section can vary from good to rough shape and is very challenging. Once we hit Main Divide it is approx.. 1/2 mile up to the towers. We will spend about 20 minutes at the summit to regroup, take some pictures and just enjoy the view. The trail from the summit back down to the trailhead is a fire road in pretty good condition, but it can get warm, there isn’t any shade so hats and sunscreen are recommended. We will stop at Picnic Rock “aka Mini Moab” for lunch (or snack if we want to plan a lunch after the hike). We usually spend about 20-30 minutes having lunch at picnic rock before heading back down the fire road. Plan to finish the hike between 2 and 2:30pm.
